BOSTON (May 15,2017, 3 pm EDT)—A study in mice finds that development of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) could be arrested by switching from a tall-glycemic diet (starches as are found in white bread) to a low-glycemic (starches found in whole grains). For the same amount of total carbohydrate, or tall-glycemic diets release sugar into the blood stream more rapidly than low-glycemic diets.
