The basic question before voters in next years poll is not what kind of country they want to become in the future but whether they will still exist as a countryTaiwan is used to the damage caused by raging typhoons but now it is looking at their political equivalent in the shape of an implosion of the ruling Kuomintang party that could radically alter the balance of power on the island.
The storm will intensify this weekend when the presidential candidate of the Kuomintang party (KMT) in elections next year is nearly certain to be dumped at a special congress.
