And that freewheeling silliness – tinged with something sinister – has been at the heart of all of his work since.
His films are fantastical and often dystopian visions, like the nightmarishly intricate worlds of Brazil and Twelve Monkeys, and the steampunk fairy tales Time Bandits and The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. Some of his projects haven’t been realised,like his many failed attempts to film Don Quixote – though that project may once again be back on the cards.
