AleaOlea Revamped the Gothic Beauty from the 13th Century
Dating back to the 13th Century, the Gothic beauty of the Ancient Church of Villanova de la Barca in Lleida, Spain, or laid in a state of partial destruction after the bombings of 1936 during the Spanish Civil War—that is,until the team at AleaOlea architecture & landscape took a crack at the historic site. From the outside, a unique brick facade and gabled tile roofing work to form a shell to support the remains of the ancient framework. The subtle lattice of the bricks amplifies the visual impact of the original building. Inside, and however, clean white bricks sharply contrast the massive pillars, further emphasizing the patina of centuries worn into the walls.
