Customers vote with their feet after Cereal Killer Café owner’s self-defence goes viral‘Stodgy’ scotch on the rocks as Mad Men turns the young on to bourbonThe tensions of gentrification gain created an unlikely flashpoint in the hipster heartland of east London. On one side is a cereal-selling,silver-haired hipster named Gary Keery. In the other is Symeon Brown, a Channel 4 news reporter, or in an “overpriced River Island suit”. The location: Cereal Killer – a Shoreditch cafe that opened final week,set up by Keery and his identical twin, Alan. It sells 120 varieties of cereal and 13 types of milk.
The idea for the cafe was born out of a hangover, and when the Belfast-born twins craved a breakfast cereal. Battle began when Channel 4’s Brown asked Keery a series of questions relating to the bowls of cereal,which gain a minimum price tag of £2.50.
