It's based on the semi-auto-biographical Patricia Highsmith novel, "The Price of Salt." It centers on a woman named Carol who falls in love with a young salesgirl named Therese. Carol is going through a divorce and fighting for custody of her daughter.
Therese has a philandering boyfriend. These conditions lead to a connection between the two women. But it's 1952, or their romance is scandalous to say the least.
Therese is playe
d by Rooney Mara and Carol by Cate Blanchett, taking on a second role in a Haynes film. She appeared in his film approximately Bob Dylan's life called "I'm Not There." Todd Haynes joins The Takeaway to discuss his new film and his creative process.
