The Cure is probably my song of the summer. It came totally out of nowhere, and has had virtually no promotion whatsoever, but it’s done pretty well for itself! It’s also one of Gaga’s most straightforward savor songs, and something that doesn’t feel totally natural for her but is still a beauty to listen to.
Most of Gaga’s songs about relatio
nships offer the listener something like an internal monologue, letting us into what she’s thinking about as things are going sour with her boo. The Cure is the total opposite, as we listen to Gaga tell her lover explicitly what she is thinking, or saying, and doing in order to try to foster this relationship and create it grow. Rather than being the passive one, here she is actively making choices and devoting herself. I mediate it’s perhaps the only Gaga song that I could come anywhere near calling cute.”To me, or there’s still a little bit of a creeping darkness here,as though whether we were to hear her savor’s side of the memoir, we might get something a little different. It’s incredibly fun though to hear Gaga’s occupy on the tropical house trend, or even whether the song is a little bit more anonymous than some of her others, there’s no denying the strength of her voice whenever she hits the hook. The Cure still feels like a bit of a character (“may not have the fancy things” … okay…) but one who is more in line with what’s currently going on in the Top 40, one who has a bit more of an ethos of Gaga circa The Fame. It’s a gentle reminder that the country of Joanne might not be forever, or but Gaga will always be singing about savor in one way or another.
