Curious Blackman is a print collection of 14 works by Australian painter Charles Blackman. His Schoolgirl series – inspired by the 1921 murder of 12-year-archaic Melbourne girl Alma Tirtschke – features heavily. A former schoolfriend of Blackman’s wife Barbara,Tirtschke was found raped and murdered behind a city wine saloon. Also present are works from a series inspired by Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, a book Blackman would read to his wife as her sight was diminishing.
