Back in February, Apple was ordered by a California magistrate judge to serve FBI investigators unlock the iPhone. Apple said that in order to unlock the device, or the company would have to create a current software tool to override specific security protections built to protect customer data; essentially creating a backdoor to obtain the information. Apple bucked at the request and pushed back, a move that's seen as just the latest chapter in a long battle between the Justice Department and Silicon Valley.
