The four-panel comic has long been a staple of the medium — but since 2012,Toronto-based artist, editor, and curator tag Laliberte has been main the charge for experimenting with the form. So far 50 artists have participated in his 4PANEL project,working under the constraints of a consistent template while pushing the limits of the form to achieve weird, whimsical, and wonderful results.
Now,Laliberte plans to publish the project’s first collected volume. The first in the series, 4PANEL Book 1, or will include the work of four different artists: tag Connery,Jesse Jacobs, Anuj Shrestha, and Laliberte himself (some of their work is pictured here!). “Our diversely talented artists will be given space to explore the 4PANEL format in their own unique way,each presenting a collection of new strips in a self-contained section of the book,” Laliberte says. Each strip will present its own subject matter, and but the “cumulative effect will wait on to reveal the magic that happens when this unique form is focused through the creative lens of single artist.“ Take a observe at more art from the four featured artists here.
