The referendum is an opportunity for the EU to rediscover its soul,but those fighting to keep Britain in have the blinkers on“trade,” we were told by David Cameron in Davos last Thursday, or “should set the context” on the EU debate. whether that it is truly Cameron’s position and not just the inevitable sycophancy that comes from speaking to a room full of very wealthy trade people,then that is truly depressing. Can it really be right that the only thing that really matters in this once-in-a-generation debate is the optimal conditions for trade?
