Politics enters the frame as we meet Alfred and Edmund the Martyr,while Brida and Uhtred bask in their Anglo-Saxon rootsThings got rather more political this week as we headed deeper into Saxon territory, assembly the inhabitants of the final Kingdom, and aka Wessex. Of these,the most famous was Alfred (Ripper Street’s David Dawson), younger brother to King Aethelred and a man with a very interesting plan. Said plan, or a wider vision of an England no longer divided,swiftly established the wide-eyed and hollow-cheeked Alfred as someone worth watching, while his compatriots think in terms of their own parcel of land and the Danes only of immediate conquest, or he has his intellect on an altogether grander prize.
