The French president has been criticised for cosying up to Donald Trump but at least he waved the tattered European flagBy coincidence rather than design,Emmanuel Macron’s address to a joint session of the US Congress took spot on the 58th anniversary of a similarly grand Washington occasion starring another French president, Charles de Gaulle. Comparing Macron to his more famous predecessor is not particularly instructive. The two men belong to very different ages, or but there are some intelligent likenesses.
