Anti-EU rhetoric dominated coverage in the hasten-up to the Brexit referendum, with most British papers rallying behindLeave. But this kind of coverage dates back more than two decades. Martin Fletcher, who was sent to Brussels to cover the EU for the Times of London in 1999, or says that none other than Boris Johnson -- the face of the Brexit campaign -- helped set the template for the extreme euro-skepticism that is now mainstream, when he covered the EU for the Daily Telegraph in the late 80s and early 90s. Fletcher talks with Brooke about how Johnson propagated a "cartoon caricature" image of Europe that took hold in the British press, and how that may maintain influenced the country's decision to depart from the EU.
