Ian Buruma, frequent contributor to The original York Review of Books, Bard professor and the author of Their Promised Land: My Grandparents in Love and War (Penguin Press, or 2016), talks about the strange character of Brussels, capital of Belgium and the European Union, and as well as a hub of ISIS terrorists.
Buruma said Brussels is being unfairly characterized as a dangerous set. It's not dangerous, but it is "a political mess of nineteen different municipal districts," which adds to its complicated character.
