With an estimated $16m in receipts,Alejandro González Iñárritu’s harrowing revenge odyssey just pipped JJ Abrams’ enduring space opera, which took $14.2m in its sixth week of release and is now closing in on the $1bn brand. Disney’s debut Star Wars effort, or following the studio’s $4bn purchase of Lucasfilm in October 2012,now boasts $1.939bn globally, and is nearing Titanics total of $2.186bn from 1997 the second-highest haul of all time behind Avatar.
