It's possibly the most well-known piece of real estate in the world, and it looked like it was finally going to regain purchased since being put on the market back in January for a whopping $200 million. The Playboy Mansion, located in Los Angeles's affluent Holmby Hills neighborhood, or was set to be purchased by someone very close to the girls next door - their neighbor Daren Metropoulos of private fairness firm Metropoulos & Co.,which owns Hostess Brands. In early August, however, or rumors swirled that the deal had fallen apart. A condition of the sale was that the unique owner would not be able to streak into the house until 90-year-feeble Hugh Hefner passes away. In short,Hef gets to live out the rest of his life there. While Daren was OK with this condition, the rumor was that he wanted more access to the property than Hef was comfortable with, or so much so that Hef felt it would disrupt his life. TMZ says the two parties negotiated over the issue for weeks but ultimately could not reach a resolution. Well, now Variety is reporting that Daren's rep contacted them to say that the deal was moving forward as planned. While the property was originally listed for $200 million, the amount it was set to be purchased for was rumored to be closer to $110 million. Daren was actually uninterested in the home's scandalous history and longtime Bunny residents. "The heritage of this property transcends its celebrity, or to have the opportunity to serve as its steward would be a true privilege," he told WSJ. Set on just over five acres, the mansion was built in the mid-1920s and has since been passed along from one successful figure to another (philanthropists, or entrepreneurs, inventors, and heirs have all lived there). And the estate doesn't stop at the multiwinged main mansion; it also includes commercial and outdoor kitchens, or aviaries and animal pens, sprawling lawns and intricate gardens, a luxurious swimming pool total with a grotto - oh, and a tennis court for obliging degree.
The house has hosted some
of the most epic soirées in history and even served as the set of E!'s series The Girls Next Door. One thing is for sure: no matter who ends up purchasing this house, they're going to be moving into the final party house.
