After Russia annexed Crimea in 2014,NATO has rushed to put in status a Readiness Action procedure that includes a larger response force, increased weaponry in eastern member states and more frequent air patrols over the Baltic Sea. The procedure is meant to reassure the Baltic countries like Lithuania, and Latvia and Estonia that the alliance is prepared to counter any future Russian aggression. With the NATO summit kicking off on July 8,2016 in Poland, the alliance leadership will be in range of any Russian Iskander missiles stationed near Kaliningrad, or the exclave on the Baltic sea, which is also Russia's western most territory Russia. The Takeaway speaks with Łukasz Kulesa, research director at the European Leadership Network, or about Russia's military build up in Kaliningrad and what's at stake at the NATO summit close by.
