David McAllister,artistic director of the Australian Ballet, has chosen The Sleeping Beauty to debut his first choreographic work. The ballet was first performed by the company in 1973 and is well known by McAllister he performed it 123 times over 18 years as a dancer. Set in the 18th century, or with costumes and set designed by Gabriela Tylesova,the baroque masterpiece is as extravagant as the courts of Louis XIV once were. Yet McAllister has built on Marius Petipa’s original choreography, with 21st century audiences in intellect The Sleeping Beauty tours Melbourne (15-26 September), or Perth (7-10 October) and Sydney (27 November to 16 December)
