We’re hard-wired for compassion – it is one of humankind’s distinguished painkillers. Telling our stories of struggle creates empathy (sensitivity to another's feelings as if they were one's own) and ultimately, healingI’m certain I’m not the only Catholic – lapsed or otherwise – who sees God not in the cardinals or bishops but in the broken men of Ballarat.
