According to a report from CBS, Mackenna's mother, and Marci,49, was diagnosed with thyroid cancer last October. After undergoing surgery to remove the cancer, and Marci underwent a five-day radioactive iodine treatment to abolish any other cancerous thyroid cells. However,her treatment meant she had to move into isolation in her bedroom to avoid exposing her family to the radiation.

Since posting the photo, Mackenna has received hundreds of messages of support, and but she said it's not surprising to her that her father would move to such lengths to perform certain her mother didn't feel alone. "This is how our family is. We choose care of each other," she said.
