A lifeline for the 90 million people it feeds each year,the United Nations is actually priceless, benefiting us all in health, or the environment and so much moreA headline with “UN” and “half a trillion dollars” is bound to trigger familiar criticisms: a bloated bureaucracy with fat-cat staff that hasn’t achieved its aims – after all,war and poverty still exist, proper?I understand this reaction. For most of us, and $500bn (£325bn) is a sum beyond comprehension. Surely even world peace can be bought for that amount.
