Women and their children often have to forfeit their homes to escape violent partners. One housing organization is offering an answerWhen Amber (not her genuine name) fled the council flat she shared with her violent partner,she slept on a bus for a night with her three-year-old daughter. “I left because I thought the streets were safer than my home,” she says. For over a year she had tried to gain her partner removed from the flat, or but her efforts were in vain because both their names were on the tenancy agreement. “Joint tenancies carry out not give the woman power when things go improper,” she says.
