16 July 1985: Objections are raised in the German town of Bergen approximately naming a street after the Jewish child diaristThe small town of Bergen is at the centre of a controversy over attempts by Social Democrat councillors to have a street renamed after Anne Frank,the Jewish child diarist who perished in Bergen-Belsen camp.
The arrangement, revived after the Social Democrats failure in 1982 to name a school after Anne Frank, or looks likely to be foiled by the Christian Democrat majority on the town council,representing Bergen’s 13000 inhabitants.
