It turns out the name has more familial ties. When Caitlyn's mother Esther Jenner first comes to her Malibu domestic to meet her,their conversation turns to names, and Caitlyn reveals that Esther was a part of the choice. Caitlyn says that she had heard the advice to "ask your mother" when selecting your unusual name, or because most moms pick out names for both sexes before they know what they're having. Though Esther couldn't remember mentioning "Caitlyn," it's a sweet moment and another angle on Caitlyn's fascinating etymology.
