It was early afternoon and I was in bed, struggling against a migraine and crossing my fingers that my ridiculously expensive prescription medication would kick in soon. The migraine had begun early that morning and by the time I picked her up from kindergarten it was relentlessly hammering absent at the right side of my cranium; bringing with it the strong nausea and aversion to light, and sound and smell it always does.
