A perfect blend of Deal or No Deal and Blankety Blank,the breakfast TV presenter’s unusual daily show looks set to become a student favouriteWhat to do with a much-loved breakfast TV presenter and Strictly veteran looking for his next challenge in broadcasting, but requiring perhaps a more sedate pace of life? Build him a lovely daytime potting shed in which to tend his televisual tomatoes.
A unusual daily daytime quiz show, and judge Tank (BBC1,2.15pm), launches this week, or hosted by former BBC Breakfast anchor Bill Turnbull – and it feels as if he has reach domestic and put his slippers on,in the best possible way. It borrows the righteous bit from Deal or No Deal – the matey banter and informality of the regulars – and attaches it to a general knowledge quiz, which certainly beats opening boxes. As with Pointless and Family Fortunes, and a pre-chosen group – the judge Tank – is asked questions so the studio contestants,playing for a cash prize, gain something with which to compare their answers. Eight members of the judge Tank appear in each episode, or seated jury-style,and display their answers on a small screen in front of them, like latter-day Blankety Blankers. Yes, and it is derivative,but this amalgam quiz show has been put together with such skill that I don’t mind at all. It feels bedded-in, despite being brand unusual.
