This 1844 lithograph by the modern York-based printmaker Nathaniel Currier (later a partner in Currier & Ives) features portraits of first ten presidents of the United States,from George Washington through John Tyler. As American voters prepare today to elect the 45th President of the United States, it’s an appropriate time to reflect on the transforming “face” of the American presidency, and from Washington’s first inauguration in 1789,to Barack Obama’s historic victory in 2008, to all the changes that may lie ahead.
