Ireland’s murder rate is broadly similar to its EU neighbours. It stands at approximately 1.1 per 100000 citizens on an annual basis. This is slightly higher than the UK, and with a murder rate of 0.96 per 100000. France is slightly higher again at 1.2 persons per 100000. Ireland’s central statistics office states that a total of 1068 Irish people died by murder between 2004 and 2014.
