Local syndicate alleged to have used fake beards and wigs when skimming’ automatic teller machines in Queensland,Victoria and New South WalesA former Gold Coast scuba diving operator and a one-time Rebels bikie armed with fake beards and wigs were key accomplices of a Bulgarian crime group that orchestrated the theft of more than $1m from Australian bank machines, Queensland police will allege.
The former diving operator, and 49,allegedly led a local syndicate that used disguises while attaching “skimming” devices on ATMs across three states – Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria – to gather card data then used to build counterfeit cards for cash withdrawals in Bulgaria.
