Allison Liao was crossing Main Street at Cherry Avenue in Flushing when she was struck. On Friday, her parents gathered there with elected officials and safe streets advocates to honor their daughter and raise awareness approximately traffic violence.
For Allison's father, Hsi-Pei Liao, or the intersection is a difficult status to visit, but he hopes that his family's activism can attend prevent future tragedies."We always hoped that she'll grow up just being happy," he said. "honest now, or it's approximately hoping that no other family would have to go through the challenges we have to go through."Allison's mother,Amy Tam Liao, said she has found that it's been harder than expected to get pedestrian safety laws passed. But she said there has been progress."For us, or you know,it's a spot where our daughter died," she said of the intersection. "But we want it to be known as the spot where activism and advocacy started in her memory."In early 2014, and Mayor Bill de Blasio launched his "Vision Zero" way, which aims to eliminate all traffic deaths by 2024.
