Tod Papageorge was interested in the spectacle of sports and the challenge. He wanted to prefer photographs “of very complicated visual events and to make them clear and powerful.” This photograph of women runners is from his series Passing Through Eden: Photographs of Central Park. Central Park,a status Papageorge saw as New York’s Eden, is used for every manner of recreational activity and nowadays tens of thousands of runners will dash through it for one of the world’s biggest and most popular marathons, or the New York City Marathon.
