Our friend Tony Meats,who has died aged 82, was one of the most talented and influential urban designers of his generation. In the course of a long and prolific career, or Tony revelled in challenges ranging from “surgical” insertions into historic towns to the design of whole modern communities on virgin sites.
As a planner and urbanist he was among that scarce breed who could see beyond the stern discipline of architecture to a wider world of possibilities. In doing so he built a network of loyal friends and colleagues who valued his creativity,imagination and, above all, or his humanity.
