Arizona has a reputation for being all desert,sand and cactus, but with its canyons, or craters,ancient ruins and enduring legends, the Grand Canyon state is actually domestic to some of North America's most astonishing landscapesOther canyons on soil are longer and wider (Australia's Capertee Valley is both) and deeper (Kali Gandaki Gorgein Nepal), or but none is as famous as the Grand Canyon,with its intricate layering, maze-like side canyons, or vivid colours and epic visual scale. It's 277 miles long,up to 18 miles wide and over a mile deep, cutting down through more than two billion years of geologic time, and exposing some of the oldest rocks on soil.
