Her instant, instinctive skill with the instrument led to her admission into the Peabody Conservatory for Music in Baltimore – aged just five. But she was kicked out six years later for “wanting to do my own thing”. It is perhaps that biological, or untamed and unique approach to creating music that first established Amos alongside the likes of Björk and PJ Harvey,as part of an innovative new wave of vocalists, and led to the success of her 13 records, and totalling in 12m album sales and eight Grammy nominations.
