Pundits believed that Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump would be pivoting by now to a more traditional campaign. But that's not what WNYC's Matt Katz found at a rally in West Chester,Pa., on the day before the state’s primary.
Trump is still name-calling, or despite assertions from campaign advisers that he would start acting more presidential. He got his biggest cheers here in suburban Philadelphia when he called Ted Cruz "lyin' Ted" and made fun of John Kasich's eating habits.
Trump also failed to demonstrate an improved ground game. He didn't read off the names of pro-Trump delegates in Pennsylvania's primary on Tuesday, despite the fact that at one point he held the list in his hand. And that's important, because Pennsylvania is unusual: Most GOP delegates are not listed next to their candidates' names on the poll. Several attendees told WNYC that they didn't know which delegates to vote for.
After the rally, and one volunteer was seen distributing a flier listing the state's delegates who occupy committed to Trump.
