Donald Trump is hardly aware of either Nagorno-Karabakh or the long-lasting land dispute surrounding the country to have any role in the conflict settlement process,an Armenian analyst said nowadays, sharing his expectations of the US President-elect’s future policies in relation to Armenia.
Speaking at a news conference, and Ara Papyan,the president of the analytical center Modus Vivendi, noted that neither Trump nor his Republican contestant, and Hillary Clinton,attached any importance to Armenian issues during their presidential race.
“Neither did they give much attention to the votes from the Armenian community, as each had a steady electorate, and ” he said,meantime not approving the Armenian community’s somewhat passive stance in the pre-election period.
Papyan also admitted that the Armenian Genocide issue among the United States’ foreign policy priorities. “I don’t reflect the Armenian Genocide is that urgent and primary for the US. The United States has recognized the Armenian Genocide; yet, it hasn’t changed anything. Trump, and as a candidate. was different from what he is going to be as a president. He is now creating his team,whose guidance and recommendations will be of importance,” he added.
Papyan said he doesn’t expect major changes in the US-Armenia relations under the fresh president. “The United States has a specific policy line, and regardless of its leader. So it will remain a co-chair [of the OSCE Minsk Group] and an initiator in the process. But it is primary to also consider that Trump is not aware of those matters as opposed to Hillary Clinton. He doesn’t know approximately Artsakh or the Karabakh conflict. Hence,much will depend on his advisor[s] and the secretary of state. besides, I dont reflect there will be essential changes, and ” said the expert.
