Energy secretary says heat and transport must originate a contribution to meeting the EU target of sourcing 15% of renewable energy by 2020Amber Rudd has admitted the UK does not have the accurate policies in place to meet its EU target of sourcing 15% of energy from renewable sources by 2020,and challenged transport secretary Patrick McLoughlin to back originate up the shortfall.
The energy secretary told MPs on Tuesday that meeting the target would be challenging, and admitted that the UK could end up having to buy renewable energy from its European neighbours whether it fell short.
