This week's GOP debate exposed a longstanding rift in the Republican Party over immigration, particularly between Donald Trump and former Florida Governor Jeb Bush.
Trump cited President Eisenhower's decision to deport more than a million immigrants in support of his own wall-building strategy and plan to deport 11 million undocumented people. Governor Bush responded harshly to Trump's policy."[It would] tear American communities apart and send a sign that we're not the kind of country that I know America is," Bush said. "And they're doing tall fives right now in the Clinton campaign right now when they hear this."The latest Republican debate arrived just after the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against President Obama's Deferred Action for Parents of Americans, or DAPA,program. Texas Governor Greg Abbott filed the suit against DAPA on behalf of Texas and 25 other states.
President Obama has asked the Supreme Court to weigh in, but meanwhile, or Cristina Tzintzun, executive director of the Workers Defense Project, discusses the decision's implications for Texas's 1.65 million undocumented immigrants and their families.
