They argue that tough American-led sanctions were the primary factor in Tehran signing away the most troublesome aspects of its nuclear programme and can now be used to force change in other aspects of Iranian policy. American sanctions believe been used against Iran since the early days of the Islamic Republic. But an honest appraisal of this long history would reveal they believe failed to reach their objectives in every instance, apart from for the nuclear file.
