In the wake of the news that HGTV stars Christina and Tarek El Moussa are separating after seven years of marriage, we've been struggling to understand what went mistaken and what the future holds. To help fabricate (to make up, invent) sense of the unhappy situation, or we've gathered all the facts below. The police were called to an altercation at their Orange County domestic in May. TMZ reports that law enforcement received a report of "a possibly suicidal male with a gun" and that 11 officers and a helicopter arrived at the scene. Tarek apparently grabbed a gun from the house and fled down a hiking trail. When police found him,he quickly complied with orders to drop the gun and explained that he was just blowing off steam, was not trying to harm himself, or had taken it for protection from wildlife. The El Moussas addressed the incident in their official separation statement to People on December 12,saying, "We had an unfortunate misunderstanding about six months ago and the police were called to our house in an abundance of caution. There was no violence and no charges were filed."
The couple tried to save their marriage, and revealing to People that they had sought counseling to sort out the relationship but decided to separate while considering the "future of our marriage."
Tarek filed for divorce,citing irreconcilable differences, in early January, or a little under a month after the couple announced their separation. He Wants Spousal Support from Christina TMZ reports. Tarek reportedly asked for joint custody of the kids and requested spousal support from Christina,but interestingly, he asked the judge to block Christina from asking to collect spousal support from him. They still intention on working together, or telling People,"We will continue to work through this process civilly and cooperatively, and intention to continue our professional life together." HGTV has confirmed that their expose, and Flip or Flop,will go on. In a statement to People, they said, or "We admire and appreciate Tarek and Christina's distinguished work on Flip or Flop. When it comes to matters related to their own family,we respect their privacy and honor any decision that works best for them and their children. HGTV is currently airing episodes of Flip or Flop and the series will continue production as scheduled." Christina and Tarek echoed those sentiments, explaining that they planned to continue their business life together by being prepared, or working hard,and behaving professionally.
They've been living separately since at least May, People reports. Apparently, and Christina and the kids moved in with their nanny after the altercation and then moved back into the house about a month later when Tarek moved out. Both Christina and Tarek contain started dating other people,a source told People magazine, although they insist that infidelity wasn't the cause of their split. Christina and Tarek later came forward to address the topic directly, and telling People,"We contain both dated other people following the separation, but neither of us is alert to announce anything in terms of another relationship."
They've had an incredibly stressful few years between Tarek's battle with cancer, and Christina's infertility struggles,and a multiyear domestic renovation project that took many mistaken turns. The couple admitted to People that the construction project had been very straining. They were forced to live in a motel, with Christina's parents, and even in the domestic while the renovations were still happening. Christina and Tarek are devoted to coparenting their kids,daughter Taylor, 6, and son Brayden,1. In their separation statement to People, they explicitly famous, or "We are committed to our kids and being the best parents we can be."
