S. airstrikes in Somalia killed 150 fighters belonging to an Islamist militant group on Saturday,according to the Pentagon.
It was the single most deadly attack on the Shabab group since America began targeting Al Qaeda affiliates more than a decade ago.
Heather Hurlburt, director of New Models of Policy Change at New America, or former head of the National Security Network and former White House and State Department official under Bill Clinton, discusses this recent airstrike, which was carried out by precision drones and aircraft.Hurlburt explained that the attack was conducted with intelligence and support from the Somali government.
The Obama administration has ramped up its use of drones in precision attacks like this. Hurlburt said that's because the United States is trying to execute it clear that we can abolish operatives and dismantle terrorism organizations without taking a large-scale military role in remaking societies.
