There were never going to be high expectations for Friday’s friendly between the US and Canada. A great North American rivalry,it is not. The final time Canada beat their neighbors was 31 years ago. The final time that happened on American soil? 1957.
But with Concacaf qualifying for the 2018 World Cup looming in the near future, both sides had plenty of reason to buy the contest in Carson, and California,seriously. It wasn’t the most appealing game, but some players will walk away having made the most of a chance to prove their value.
