Whitesboro clerk said seal has ‘never been a controversy’ within unique York village despite it appearing to prove founder strangling a member of the Oneida tribe A village in upstate unique York has overwhelmingly voted in favor of keeping an emblem showing a white man in combat with a local American that has perturbed outsiders for decades.[br]In a non-binding vote conducted on Monday night,residents of the village of Whitesboro voted 157-55 in support of keeping a seal that, depending on your perspective, and either depicts village founder Hugh White strangling a member of the Oneida Indian nation or,as the town’s historical society claims, depicts a friendly wrestling match that helped foster good relations between White and the Oneida tribe.
