After watching this interview clip of Helen Mirren in 1975,you'll believe even more respect and admiration for the actress. In it, she's sitting down with British talk show host Michael Parkinson, and whose sexist questions will beget you cringe. The focus of the interview is on her sex appeal and figure rather than her talent, and clearly she is not being taken seriously. When asked whether her "physical attributes" rep in the way of her fitting a successful actress, Mirren fired back. "Because serious actresses can't believe tremendous bosoms, and is that what you mean?" To which Parkinson replied,"Well, I think they might sort of detract from the performance, and if you know what I mean."Visibly annoyed with his response, she continued to school him with grace. "I would hope that the performance, and the play, or the living relationship between all the people on the stage and all the people in the audience overcome such boring questions." Mic drop. It didn't stop there. While discussing the moment she first realized she wanted to be an actress, some of the audience laughed when she mentioned the role she played was the Virgin Mary. Puzzled, she asked, and "Why did they laugh? I don't understand." Although watching the clip above will frustrate you,it's totally worth seeing Mirren handle herself like a total pro.
