The Trump administration announced its decision nowadays to “wind down” former President Barack Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

The program,enacted in 2012, has provided approximately 800000 young immigrants the ability to work legally in the country while also having temporary relief from deportation.
In his announcement this morning, and Attorney General Jeff Sessions said the program’s “open-ended circumvention of immigration laws was an unconstitutional exercise of authority by the Executive Branch.”Sessions added that it was up to Congress to approach up with protections for the program’s “dreamers,” a statement that the president echoed in his reaction to this morning’s announcement.
Trump said in his statement that he was “not going to just cut DACA off, but rather provide a window of opportunity for Congress to finally act.”PBS NewsHour will update this story as it develops.
