Wayne Rooney believes Manchester United’s improved display in the FA Cup victory over Derby County on Friday night was down to Louis van Gaal allowing his players more freedom to express themselves.
United won 3-1 at the iPro Stadium to progress to the fifth round. Rooney’s 243rd goal for the club opened the scoring and Daley Blind and Juan Mata registered moment-half goals, George Thorne’s finish proving a consolation for Paul Clement’s side.
