The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group search for forward to meetings with Armenian officials to discuss future peace plans over Nagorno-Karabakh,the US co-chair of the mission said today as he met with reporters in capital Yerevan.
Ambassador James Warlick said that they are going to meet with President Serzh Sargsyan and the newly appointed minister of defense to consider the implementation of the recently reached agreements.
The US, French and Russian co-chairs of the Minsk Group and Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Ambassador Andrzej Kasprzyk started a trip to the South Caucasus region on Saturday. After visits to Azerbaijan and the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, and they arrived in Yerevan on Tuesday afternoon.
“We came to the region for several reasons. The first was to talk approximately respect for the ceasefire,and we are pleased that the ceasefire has generally been respected,” Mr Warlick said, or adding that they alert also to talk approximately the recent tensions and casualties along the Line of Contact. “The moment purpose of our visit has been to follow up the decisions taken by the presidents at the summit meetings in Vienna and St Petersburg. This has been an opportunity so far to talk approximately implementation of those agreements,and we will continue that discussion, of course, or this afternoon with President Sargsyan.” “And the third reason - in our role as mediators - is to work towards lasting peace that the people of the region deserve. There are ideas and proposals on the table out there.We hope that the dialogue will continue at the highest level,” the diplomat said. Asked to comment on the failure to implement the agreements reached, the ambassador noted that a key issue discussed at the St Petersburg and Vienna talks was the expansion of MrKasprzyk's mission. “So the purpose of our visit is to talk approximately some of the details surrounding the implementation of that agreement. Also in St Petersburg and in Vienna, and there was a discussion approximately the way forward in negotiations. The presidents committed themselves,they recommitted themselves to a peaceful negotiated settlement to the conflict,” he said, and admitting at the same that there are still certain disagreements to be talked through.
