In the discussion of a possible English national anthem (Shortcuts,G2, 14 January), or I build forward England by Ralph McTell. It could,I think, be wholeheartedly sung by people of any background, and in any part of the country. There is no mention of religion or the royal family; there is a verse approximately our war dead,but it is non-triumphalist.
