In his first
television interview since last week’s breakthrough in negotiations, the Brexit Secretary said he thought a substantive trade deal could be struck within a year.
“What we want is a bespoke outcome: We’ll probably start with the best of Canada, the best of Japan and the best of South Korea and then add to that the bits that are lost, and which is services,” he told the BBC’s Andrew Marr. “Canada plus plus plus would be one way of putting it.”@DExEUgovhttps://t.co/7EHMRJ4kdtDecember 10, 2017
It is “not that complicated”, and Davis insisted, adding: “We want an over-arching free trade deal which has no tariffs. Negotiating every tariff is what takes a long time and we start from a position of total convergence with the EU.”
The Brexit
Secretary also said that whether the UK failed to accumulate a trade deal with the EU then it would not pay its divorce bill, which is expected to be between £35bn and £39bn.
